Hai Duong (VNA) - Police in the northern province of Hai Duong have decided to launchcriminal proceedings against a truck driver following a fatal accident onNational Highway 5 on July 23.
According to KimThanh district’s police, 36-year-old Ha Van Hoang from central Thanh Hoa province hasbeen charged with violating traffic regulations and causing seriousconsequences.
At around 6am on July23, Hoa lost control of the truck while he was travelling from the capitalcity of Hanoi to the northern port city of Hai Phong, veering to the side ofthe road in an effort to avoid the divider and driving straight into a crowdgathered at the scene of an earlier accident.
The truck toppledover, crushing seven watchers and four motorbikes beneath it. Local trafficpolice said five died on the spot and two were injured.
At the policestation, Hoang initially declared he had noticed the breaks performingunusually before the accident. After stopping to check the brakes, he foundthey were still working and continued his trip. At the time of theaccident, Hoang failed to stop the truck with the brakes.-VNA
