Da Nang (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked authorities of central Da Nang city to seize opportunities and make the best use of local potential and advantages to grow rapidly and sustainably.

He made the request at a recent ceremony to announce a decree and a decision on Da Nang’s development, of the Government and the Prime Minister.

Da Nang needs to continue with economic restructuring based on potential and advantages of the locality and the region, as well as the demand of the domestic, regional and global markets.

At the same time, more efforts are needed to cope with climate change and natural disasters, Dung said.

Apart from economic restructuring, Da Nang should review, adjust and supplement planning schemes of sectors, especially urban, rural, infrastructure and technical planning.

The Deputy PM also ordered speeding up the planning of Da Nang city during the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050, in line with the Law on Planning, as well as the building of yearly, five-year and 10-year plans on the implementation of the project adjusting the city’s master plans.

These implementation plans must define specific roadmaps, resources structure and priority projects, Dung said, adding that the focus should be on building a synchronous infrastructure system, especially transport infrastructure, in order to create a breakthrough for the city’s development.

Da Nang needs to enhance socio-economic management and development, with an emphasis on urban development according to planning schemes.

More attention should be paid to social housing, notably houses for social policy beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, low-income earners, and workers.

The Deputy PM listed other tasks for local authorities like stepping up administrative reform, removing difficulties facing businesses and people and building a smart city.

Along with economic development, Da Nang should give more heed to education-training, human resources quality, cultural preservation and development, social welfare, material and spiritual life of people, social progress and equality, national defence, political security, and social order and safety.

Regarding the project on building the Lien Chieu Port, Dung suggested the city coordinate with ministries and agencies to soon complete investment procedures in line with legal regulations, and ensure the progress and quality of the project.

For a project on building Da Nang into a regional financial centre, the city needs to learn from international experience in this regard, and consult relevant ministries and agencies in building the project, ensuring its feasibility and efficiency.

He proposed ministries and agencies coordinate with Da Nang to seriously and effectively implement decrees, decisions and instructions of the Government and the Prime Minister in order to create the best possible conditions for the city to create breakthroughs, become a major socio-economic centre of the country and Southeast Asia, and serve as a centre of startup, innovation, creation, tourism, trade, finance, logistics, high technology, information-technology and support industry.

The Deputy PM expressed his belief that with its achievements and development orientations, Da Nang will make big strides to become a civilised and modern city, maintain its role as the economic locomotive of the central and Central Highlands region, and become new development momentum for the country in the period of industrialisation and modernisation.

Municipal authorities have adopted a host of key measures to speed up economic restructuring in 2020-2025, focusing on strengthening hi-tech and supporting industries and IT development in connection with building startups and innovative urban areas and smart cities.

Statistics of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade show that Da Nang’s supporting industry has attracted a number of large-scale investment projects over recent years and gradually joined global supply chains.

The supporting industry’s added value has made rising contributions to the added value of the city’s manufacturing and processing industry.

Since 2016, Da Nang has attracted 24 new investment projects in the supporting industry with total registered capital of over 9 trillion VND (390 million USD), including two foreign-invested projects totalling 240 million USD in the manufacture of automotive and aircraft components.

The central city is home to about 110 businesses operating in supporting industries, accounting for 6.3 percent of all industrial enterprises in the city./.
