During the meeting, Deputy Minister Viet expressed his pleasure at the progress in Vietnam – Colombia relations, particularly in economic and trade cooperation. He noted that Colombia is one of Vietnam’s key trading partners in Latin America, with bilateral trade surpassing 670 million USD last year.
He proposed that the two sides step up high-level mutual visits, make full use of existing cooperation mechanisms, and foster linkages to create a favourable environment and framework for advancing economic ties.
For his part, Vice Minister Mauricio Jaramillo affirmed that Colombia treasures its relationship with Vietnam and recognises the broad potential for bilateral cooperation, not only in trade and economy but also in education, green energy, renewable energy, and climate change response.
He stressed that Colombia, as an active member of both the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Pacific Alliance (PA), is ready to help deepen ties between these regional blocs and Vietnam as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
On this occasion, the two diplomats also discussed global developments and challenges to peace, stability, development, and multilateralism worldwide.
They agreed to bolster the countries' cooperation at international organisations, promote the role of international law and multilateralism, and enhance inter-regional connectivity between East Asia and Latin America./.
