Deputy PM inspects bird flu prevention in border province

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on March 25 made an inspection tour of the prevention of bird flu and cross-border poultry smuggling in the northern border province of Lang Son.

While inspectingquarantine units at border gates, Deputy PM Hai asked the localityto intensify measures to wipe out the illegal cross-border poultry tradeand transport in order to effectively contain the spread of the diseasein the coming time.

During a working session with localleaders, the official spoke highly of the locality’s efforts in thefield in the last year. He also stressed that they need to fully tapeconomic strengths to further promote socio-economic development.

LangSon province has introduced a wide range of measures to thwart poultrysmuggling in recent times, while the poultry market management in thelocality has also been effective, Hai noted.

Theprovincial health sector also enhanced supervision to quickly detect thecases, and prepared facilities and equipment. Meanwhile thepopularisation of information on avian influenza risks to local peoplehas been strengthened.-VNA

PM releases instructions as measles cases increase

Vietnam has recorded nearly 40,000 suspected measles cases and five measles-related deaths since the beginning of this year. The southern region reported the highest number of cases (57%), the central region accounted for 19.2%, the north 15.1%, and the Central Highlands 8.7%.
