Deputy PM seeks better partnership with Australia

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Australian Acting Governor General and New South Wales State Governor Marie Bashir in Sydney on April 12 to look for stronger relations between the two countries.

Expressing his gratitude towardsassistance granted by the Australian Government and New South Walesadministration in improving infrastructure, education, health care andclean water in Vietnam , Phuc said he hopes the Australian side,including the “Forever Study” fund set up by Bashir, will keepsupporting the country.

He said economic, trade andinvestment ties need furthering to cement the fine politicalrelationship between the two sides.

Bashir said sheis happy with bilateral relationship development, particularly withincreased exchange between leaders, officials and people.

She affirmed that Australia and New South Wales will continue tosupport Vietnam and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamesecommunity there.

The deputy PM, also chairman ofVietnam ’s Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Control,earlier had working sessions with related Australian agencies to gainexperience from the country.

In another meeting withChairman of Australian Seafood Importers Association Norman Grant onthe same day, Phuc asked the association to import more of Vietnam ’stra and basa fish and help local seafood enterprises meet internationalfood safety standards.

The Deputy PM also metrepresentatives from the Vietnamese community in Australia . Whileasking the overseas Vietnamese to continue “looking forwards their homecountry”, he said the Government will create even more favorablepolicies for them to invest in Vietnam .

The senior official’s 6 day visit to Australia will wrap upon on April 14.-VNA
