Dong Nai’s woodwork and ceramic products hold a great opportunity for direct export to the US market, said a US business delegation while meeting with their Vietnamese peers in the southern province on January 29.

They sought to team up with local companies tapping the potential. They advised local woodwork companies to assemble their products in the US to reduce transport cost and gain more incentives while touring some production plants.

They noted that the exports need to meet their country’s origin and quality standards as well as having competitive prices and favourable payment.

Prior to the meeting, the US delegation worked with the management board of the locality’s industrial parks in a bid to learn about investment procedures and sectors that Dong Nai prioritises in terms of investment attraction.

According to Duong Minh Dung, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Trade and Industry, Dong Nai is focusing on such key sectors as support and high-tech industries, and agricultural produce processing.

He raised the fact that the US has imported the highest volume of local goods but mostly via a third country.

In 2014, the US imported commodities worth some 3.6 billion USD from Dong Nai, with apparel, footwear and woodwork products as major items.-VNA
