Seoul​ (VNA) - A high-ranking delegation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) arrived in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on February 9 afternoon for the opening of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games which will open later the same day.

The 22-member delegation is headed by Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK.

According to Yonhap news agency, Kim is scheduled to attend a reception dinner hosted by RoK President Moon Jae-in, possibly at his presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.

Kim Yong-nam is the highest ranking DPRK official to visit the RoK. The delegation will return home on February 11.

The two Koreas have held two rounds of inter-Korean summits, in 2000 and 2007, both in Pyongyang.

The DPRK sent 22 athletes and hundreds of cheer team members and artists to the Winter Games. - VNA
