The Government is working to ensure that even disadvantaged people can celebrate the Lunar New Year pleasantly to welcome a prosperous year.

Last weekend, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan presented Tet gifts to 400 policy beneficiary families and Agent Orange/dioxin victims in the southern province of Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh.

Deputy Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc also presented gifts to war veterans and heroic Vietnamese mothers in the central city of Quang Ngai. During his working visit to the location on February 3, he asked local authorities to ensure that no one will go hungry during Tet.

Meanwhile, the Government’s support programme helped local authorities in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai deliver 185 tonnes of rice to about 17,000 poor people, mainly from the Mong, Dao and Ha Nhi ethnic groups.

In northern Ninh Binh province, the provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam gave 130 presents to poor workers and people with disabilities.

In the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong, the provincial Border Guard Command drew on donations from local offices and companies to buy cooking oil and seasoning powder for E De people in Buon Nui village in the remote Cu Jut district.

The HCM Communist Youth Union in central Ninh Thuan province’s Phan Rang City organised a festive programme for poor children. Each child was given a present worth 150,000 VND (7.4 USD) supplied by funds raised by the union and local businesses.-VNA
