Hanoi (VNA) – “Net zero” is the comprehensive orientation for the closed production process “from a green field to a glass of clean milk” of TH true MILK, a representative of TH Group has said.

Addressing a workshop themed “Net Zero - Green transition: Opportunity for leaders” in Hanoi on June 27, Arghya Mandal, CEO of TH Milk Joint Stock Company said that TH Group is set to complete its net-zero goal before 2050, stressing that the green economy has been practiced at TH Group for many years.

Mandal said the Government should have preferential policies to encourage businesses to implement "net zero " initiatives. For example, businesses can enjoy tax exemptions and reductions when participating in sustainable development activities, environmental protection, and afforestation.

Policies related to "net zero" should include raising awareness and enhancing communication between government agencies, local authorities, the business community, and citizens, he added.

Held by the Vietnam National Television (VTV), the workshop offers a venue for representatives from the Government and businesses to share information and experience in the way to achieve the goal of net zero emissions.

It aimed to raise public awareness of promoting the process of green transition, bringing Vietnam’s economy towards green and sustainable growth.

Vietnam made a commitment to cut emissions to net zero by 2050 announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in the UK in 2021. This specific goal has promoted the Government and businesses to join hands in the journey to build a green, sustainable economy.

Cutting - converting – absorbing scheme

In its journey towards the goal of net zero, TH Group is one of the prominent enterprises in Vietnam's hi-tech agriculture industry. It has been pioneering green production and a sustainable economy. From thinking to action, from governance to implementation, TH focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, using green and renewable energy sources, and absorbing greenhouse gases.

TH Group has set a target to reduce gas emissions in farms and factories by 15% per year.

In 2022, the group reduced petroleum consumption at its factories by converting from FO oil (fossil fuel) to biomass fuel (burning by-products of woodchips). With this change, the Group's factory system reduced its total greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85% compared to 2021.

All lights in TH's farms and factories have been converted from incandescent to LED, saving 5 million Kwh of electricity, equivalent to 4,000 tonnes of CO2. This initiative has won a consolation prize for energy saving and the Energy Management Leadership Awards orrganised by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

TH Group has invested in the world's most advanced technology in its first clean fresh milk project. Since then, all of TH's activities have adhered to the principle of using environmentally friendly materials, and green and renewable energy.

TH has installed solar power panels on the roofs of its TH clean fresh milk factories or dairy farm clusters. This system has created a green power source and helps the group save production costs, contributing to protecting the environment and ensuring national energy security.

Currently, six farms of TH Group use solar energy with a volume of electricity equivalent to one-eight of the demand. In the summer, the supply capacity will account for one-fifth of the overall demand. Once it became operational, the solar power system helped the group save 29,000 kWh per month, significantly reducing emissions into the environment.

In 2022 alone, approximately 7 million Kwh produced by TH farms was connected to the grid (meeting nearly 10% of the electricity consumed at the farms), equivalent to reducing more than 4,500 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Additionally, in order to use energy economically and reduce CO2 emissions, TH Group also researched and developed more biomass power projects at NASU Nghe An sugar factory. The estimated capacity was approximately 30MW in the 2023-2026 period, and they have installed more solar power systems at Nghe An wood factory and other food factories of the firm./.

According to the Ta Dung National Park Management Board, the park has for years served as a trusted destination for authorities and residents to hand over and release wildlife. Such actions not only contribute to biodiversity conservation but also help reduce illegal hunting and captivity of wild animals.
