Hanoi (VNA) – The majority of lawmakers supported the expansion of the draft amended Anti-corruption Law’s scope to the non-State sector during the 14th National Assembly’s fifth session on June 13 in Hanoi.

They noted the appearance of corruption in the non-State sector, saying that it causes adverse impacts on healthy competition as well as investment and business environment, and hinders the effectiveness of anti-corruption work in the public sector.

The expansion of the law’s scope to the non-State sector is to institutionalise the Party's viewpoint in the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 10-KL/TW dated December 26, 2017 on gradually expanding anti-corruption work to the non-State sector.

Deputy Luu Binh Nhuong from Ben Tre province stressed the carefulness in broadening the law’s scope and resources for the fight against corruption.

Deputy Tran Hoang Ngan from Ho Chi Minh City argued that the bill should initially cover public companies and credit organisations because they mobilise capital from people.

Lawmakers agreed with the expansion of the law’s scope to two groups – public companies, credit organisations and social organisations that frequently mobilise public contributions to charitable activities.

However, deputy Mai Thi Phuong Hoa from Nam Dinh province suggested that it should only apply some compulsory regulations such as publicising activities, obligation of leaders.

Anti-corruption in the public sector should be still a main task, NA deputies said.

NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu said opinions on the draft law were collected at the NA’s fourth session. At its fifth session, NA deputies continue giving their opinions on the bill before it will be adopted at the sixth session.-VNA
