With its different operational methods, organisation forms and names, the Vietnam National Unified Front (VNUF) has grown strongly over the past 80 years, made great contributions and been one of the decisive factors ensuring the success of the Vietnamese revolution.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh delivered the remark at a solemn ceremony held in the capital city of Hanoi on Nov. 17 to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of VNUF, which is now the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF).

Before attending the function, leaders of the Party, State and VFF paid tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and offered incenses in commemoration of fallen combatants at their monument.

In recent decades, VFF has strengthened its apparatus and renewed operation methods and contents, thereby continuing to affirm and uphold its position and role in the nation’s socio-political affairs, helping to solve issues related to national policy and people’s welfare as well as pressing social matters and contributing to the promotion of democracy and social consensus, he said.

VFF has also played an important part in building up and consolidating the great national unity, the Party and the State, and reinforcing flesh and blood relations between the Party, the State and the people, Manh added.

The Party chief stressed that while leading the revolution, the Party always adheres to the motto, “The revolutionary cause is of the people, by the people and for the people”. It is the people who made historical victories, he said.

Great national unity is a strategic, vital, long-term and decisive matter that ensures the success of the revolution and is an integral part and a leading thought of the Party’s revolutionary strategic guideline and is in line with the people’s objective demand for liberation, Manh said.

The Party leader went on to say that the spirit of great national unity must be manifested in all guidelines of the Party and policies and laws of the State in all spheres ranging from politics, to economy, culture, society, national defence and foreign affairs.

The State needs to complete the legal system and soon work out specific mechanisms to fully bring into play the people’s mastery, better implement the regulations and ordinance on democracy at grassroots levels and create favourable conditions for VFF to accomplish its historical missions during the new stage, he emphasised.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, State President Nguyen Minh Triet handed over the Gold Star – the nation’s highest award – to the VFF Central Committee in recognition of extremely outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause.

In his speech delivered at the ceremony, VFF Central Committee’s President Huynh Dam recalled stages of glorious operation of VFF at all levels as well as their important contributions to national construction and defence.

Dam said that VFF will further strengthen its apparatus, renew operation contents and methods, and well perform its role as a political union and a voluntary alliance of political organisations, socio-political organisations, social organisations and outstanding individuals from all walks of life, ethnic groups and religions and overseas Vietnamese.

VFF will also continue to be a part of the political system and a political foundation of the people’s administration and represent the will, aspirations, rights and legitimate interests of the people from all walks of life, he said./.
