With funding from various sources, KienGiang province has built over 10,000 houses for those who have renderedservice to the nation, including war invalids, families of fallensoldiers and others. The province has found and brought home the remainsof more than 1,800 volunteer soldiers who were killed in overseasbattlefields.
During a visit to the southernprovince on July 26, the VFF leader voiced his support of Kien Giang’sproposal to upgrade the cemetery on Phu Quoc Island where thousands ofrevolutionaries were buried after they were killed in the Phu Quocprison to a national cemetery.
Built in 1949 bythe French colonialists, the prison was used by France and the US tokeep tens of thousands of Vietnamese political prisoners. The prison isnow a national historical site.
On the occasionof the National Day for Fallen Soldiers and War Invalids (July 27), theVFF President offered incense at the Phu Quoc cemetery and visitedfamilies of war martyrs and invalids on the island.-VNA
