Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th Party Central Committee convened its second meeting in Hanoi on March 10, under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, on behalf of the Political Bureau, operated the opening session.

In the morning, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Dinh The Huynh read a Politburo report on the working agenda of the committee’s 12th tenure.

Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc read a report of the Party Delegation to the Government on the socio-economic development plan, the mid-term financial plan between 2016 and 2020 and the public investment plan for 2016-2020.

In the afternoon, committee members worked in groups, discussing the working agenda of the committee’s 12th tenure.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stressed that the agenda should give priority to urgent issues and key tasks, including strengthening the Party and improving the efficiency of the apparatus of the entire political system.

At this plenum, the Party Central Committee will decide nominees for the key positions of President, Government Prime Minister, and National Assembly Chairman.
