Fisheries trade unions successful in Quang Ngai
Established in 2011, the model satisfies the legitimate aspirations of local fishermen.
The unions strengthen solidarity and connections between fishermen by
uniting and helping them work more effectively, ensuring their safety in
case of natural calamities.
The unions create trust
and reliable support for fishermen. Union members always stand together
and support each other at sea.
Quang Ngai province
has six fisheries unions in six coastal districts, with the voluntary
participation of almost 2,000 workers.
The An Hai
Fisheries Trade Union, one of the first fisheries trade unions, operates
effectively with the participation of almost 700 members, working on 58
fishing vessels in offshore territorial waters. The union continues to
attract more members, who are operating in Hoang Sa (Paracels) and
Truong Sa (Spratly) fishing grounds.
Ngo Thi Kim
Ngoc, Chairwoman of the Quang Ngai provincial Federation of Labour, said
the province will continue to improve the effectiveness of established
unions, and set up new unions.
At present, there are
more than 40,000 labourers working on 5,500 fishing boats in Quang Ngai
province and more and more register to join the unions./.
