Jakarta (VNA) - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received in Jakarta on April 24Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General on Myanmar ChristineSchraner Burgener.

Thetwo sides shared updates on the situation in Myanmar. Burgerner expressed herconcern at the losses of human lives in the country and her hope that ASEANwill take positive steps to help settle the situation, thus bringing stabilityand peace to Myanmar.

FMSon took note of the efforts by the UN and Burgener herself in the matter andaffirmed that Vietnam shared the deep concerns of the international communityand of the UN on the unrest in Myanmar. Vietnam always closely follows thedevelopment in the country and takes an active part, together with ASEAN, inthe search for the most suitable solution for Myanmar, he said.

Theminister also stressed the importance of restraint, halt of violence,humanitarian support, turning to dialogue and bringing into play the centralrole of ASEAN in the whole process.

Theonly AEAN country now working as a non-permanent member of the UN Securitymember, Vietnam has been striving so the UN can have balanced and comprehensivediscussions on Myanmar, Son affirmed. He also expressed his hope that theinternational community, the UN and Burgener herself will support and assistthe efforts of ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular in this issue./.

Pathways to double-digit growth to be tabled at 16th NA’s first session

In the morning sitting on April 20, deputies are expected to hear proposals and verification reports on a range of draft resolutions. The documents cover breakthrough mechanisms and policies for the development of Vietnamese culture; the establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally run city; a pilot framework for public lawyer institution; and special mechanisms to address land law violations committed prior to the 2024 Land Law taking effect, alongside measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.
