Get-together in HCM City marks 93rd birthday of UK Queen

HCM City (VNA) - TheVietnam Union of Friendship Organisations in Ho Chi Minh City (HUFO) on June 18held a get-together to celebrate the 93rd birthday of QueenElizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association Tran HungViet said the annual celebration takes place in the context Vietnam and theEuropean country are enjoying sound relations, particularly in economy, trade,and education-training.

He took the occasion to thanked competent authorities and organisations of theUK for supporting the association to perform its tasks, while committing todoing his utmost to connect citizens in the Vietnamese southern hub and the UK,contributing to promoting cooperation and exchanges between the two nations.

Consul General of the UK Ian Gibbons, who is also director of the UK Trade& Investment in Vietnam, for his part, rejoiced at the fruitful bilateralrelations, which have been bolstered via high-level visits, and cooperativeprogrammes in the fields of education-training, defence, infrastructuredevelopment and healthcare, among others.

He stressed Vietnam-UK ties are developed based on the people-to-peoplediplomacy as well as mutual respect and understanding, describing thecelebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday as a positive step to treasure thediplomatic ties and bolster the bilateral relations.

To date, with 149 projects worth 616 million USD, the UK is the 11th largest investors among 106 countries and territories having investments in HCMCity. Last year, two-way trade reached 761 million USD.

HCM City is running various effective cooperative programmes in education andtraining with the UK.-VNA

Get-together honours Party’s 95-year history, veteran members
