Get-together promotes development triangle

Officials from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on Dec. 8 gathered at the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in the Lao southern province of Atapeu in preparation for the 7 th Conference of the Joint Coordination Committee for the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle (CLV).

The meeting evaluated the implementation of commitments reached by PrimeMinisters of the three countries at the previous CLV conference andproposed an orientation for future cooperation between provinces in thedevelopment triangle.

Participants agreed that thedevelopment triangle has registered a number of achievements such asspeeding up the growth rate in localities, building and developinginfrastructure, upgrading and expanding key regional transport routesand investing in major hydroelectric projects.

However, they pointed out that shortcomings remain in socio-economic,infrastructure and human resource development, and the poverty reductionprocess.

Delegates underlined the need to createincentives for the region, ensure favourable conditions to attractinvestment, expand border cooperation and promote connections betweenlocalities.

They also agreed to call on Japan to continue aid packages for new projects in the region./.

Senior military, public security officers promoted to higher ranks

State President Luong Cuong, Chairman of the Council of National Defence and Security and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, presided over a ceremony in Hanoi on July 14 to hand over promotion decisions to leaders of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security.
