Hai Phong (VNA) – The northern port city of Hai Phong hosted a ceremony on August 30 tocelebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Singapore diplomatic ties (August 1,1973).

The event was co-heldby the city’s Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association and the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations’ Hai Phong chapter.

In his remarks at the event,Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh thanked theGovernment and people of Singapore for their valuable and effective support forHai Phong, and Vietnam in general.

Singapore holds withthe largest number of FDI projects in Hai Phong, operating some 30 projectsworth a total of nearly 700 million USD. Chief among these is the Urban,Industry, and Services Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park Hai Phong which hasattracted a number of multinational corporations such as Nipro Pharma and FujiXerox, Thanh briefed.

The Government ofSingapore has offered Hai Phong several scholarships for training courses onsustainable urban planning and public management, while the port city has alsowelcomed a number of student delegations from Singapore on field trips toVietnam, he said.

The municipal leaderurged the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association in Hai Phong to furtherpromote the two countries’ Strategic Partnership alongside Hai Phong-Singaporerelations to local people, including organising activities to consolidate anddevelop multifaceted collaborations between people of the two sides. It mustalso actively take part in activities hosted by the Embassy of Singapore andthe Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association, he added.

For his part, Chargéd’Affaires of the Singaporean Embassy in Vietnam Tan Weiming said 2018 is asignificant year for Vietnam and Singapore as the two nations celebrate the 45thyear of their diplomatic ties. Singapore and Vietnam have shared many interestsand worked closely with each other within ASEAN forums on various issues,including discussions on free trade and security threats.

Economic cooperationis among the key pillars of bilateral relations. Singapore is the third largestinvestor in Vietnam with 43 billion USD pumped into more than 1,800 projects.

The Vietnam-SingaporeIndustrial Parks (VSIP) are a solid symbol of the close economic ties betweenthe two countries. The first VSIP was established in 1996. Since then, six moreVSIPs have opened up in Vietnam, attracting more than 10 billion USD in FDI andcreating over 174,000 jobs.–VNA

NA Standing Committee inspects election preparations in Ca Mau

In Ca Mau, 13 candidates have been introduced for the National Assembly, 73 for the provincial People’s Council, and 1,469 for commune-level People’s Councils. The provincial election committee has designated five NA constituencies and 18 constituencies for People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
