Hanoi (VNA) – Bus route No. 20, branch 20ATC, linking Nhon and Minh Chau island commune, was officially put into operation on October 1.
Minh Chau is Hanoi’s only island commune, established through the administrative re-organisation of parts of Tay Dang town and Chu Minh commune. Covering more than 10 square kilometres and home to over 6,600 residents, Minh Chau is surrounded by the Red River and has long relied on ferry transport and a single spillway road connecting through Phu Tho province.
For years, travelling to the city centre has been a challenge for local students, workers, and patients, especially during the rainy and flood seasons. The launch of this route marks a historic milestone for Minh Chau residents, the first time the capital’s public transport network has extended to an island commune in the middle of the Red River.
The 20ATC branch operates 76-seat buses from 4:40 am to 7:50 pm daily, with 37 trips running at intervals of 30 to 50 minutes. The route passes through key areas including Troi, Phung, Phuc Tho, Son Tay, Vinh Thinh Bridge, and Phu Tho province before crossing the Minh Chau spillway and ending at Minh Chau Market.
According to the Minh Chau commune authorities, the 20ATC bus line serves as as an essential means of transport, providing safe and convenient travel for students, workers, and residents. It is also expected to drive socio-economic development by improving access to healthcare, administrative, and commercial services in central Hanoi, while opening new opportunities for community-based tourism in Minh Chau./.
