Hanoi (VNA) - The Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) (ECVN) needs to work with Hanoi’s Religious Committee to encourage priests and followers of the Church to abide by State law and build cultural life in their residential areas, said a senior Hanoi official. Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung made the remark on January 19 when receiving head of the Church Pastor Nguyen Huu Mac during his visit to wish the municipal administration a happy Tet (Lunar New Year).
During the meeting, Chairman Chung asked the ECVN to enhance efforts to promote national unity.
While detailing the city’s socio-economic development in 2016, he affirmed municipal authorities will create favourable conditions for the Church to operate in 2017, especially in organising cultural, sporting, and charitable activities.
The same day, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung received a delegation from the Bac Ninh Diocese led by Bishop Hoang Van Dat, who lauded the city’s achievements in 2016.
He hoped the Bac Ninh Diocese will mobilise parishioners to abide by the Party’s guidelines and policies and laws of the State, contributing to national development.
