The Health Department of Hanoi on April 5 launched a series of preventive measures in a bid to early detect and deal with avian influenza H7N9, which has so far claimed several lives in the neighbouring country of China.

The municipal department asked relevant agencies to enhance supervision to promptly spot and handle any possible outbreaks of the influenza in the city.

Hanoi ’s health sector will intensify the popularisation of information on this disease’s risks to the community, as well as ways to prevent it.

It will also work with the agriculture and rural development sector to popularise disinfecting measures in poultry breeding to local people, and promptly take preventive measures whenever the outbreak occurs.

Supervision on poultry products and poultry transport will be intensified.

As by April 5, China has reported 16 H7N9 cases nationwide and six have died. Evidence on human-to-human infection is yet found.-VNA
