A Hanoi delegation led by Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao recently toured Geneva and Bern in a bid to boost multifaceted cooperation between the Vietnamese capital city and the Swiss cities.

At a working session with Geneva Mayor Esther Alder on September 15, Chairman Thao presented his city’s path to reform, integration and development while lauding recent bilateral collaboration efforts.

The two sides shared experience in urban management, particularly in environmental protection and cultural relic preservation.

Mayor Alder welcomed the working visit by the Hanoi delegation and voiced her interest in tightening the bonds between the two cities amidst the countries’ preparations for celebrating their 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

During an earlier tour to the capital city of Bern, Hanoi officials met with the local mayor and learned about the city’s policies on heritage value preservation and promotion.

At the meetings, the two sides introduced their respective cities’ socio-economic situation as well as the organisation, function and operation of publically-elected agencies.

The Swiss officials hoped for flourishing relations between Hanoi and Geneva and Bern.

During its stay, the Hanoi delegation attended the celebration of Vietnam’s 70th National Day and the inauguration of the new headquarters of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations office, the World Trade Organisation and other international bodies based in Geneva.-VNA
