Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has shared Hanoi voters’ view that the National Assembly (NA) must push forward with reforming its activities, including lawmaking, supervision, decision-making and diplomacy.
He and other NA deputies of Hanoi met voters in Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh and Tay Ho districts on August 6 to inform them about the outcomes of the 14th NA’s first session and to listen to their opinions.
Lauding the success of the new parliament’s first session, local constituents said they hope the newly elected State officials will keep their oaths by doing their utmost to fulfill the assigned tasks.
They said the Party leader himself should take more drastic actions, especially in preventing corruption and wastefulness and creating a Government that designs development, takes actions and proves integrity to meet people’s aspirations.
Voters also voiced their concerns about a number of problems such as the complex developments in the East Sea, violations in official appointment and economic management, and environmental pollution. They said agencies and persons involved in each case must bear responsibility and punishment.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said he will report voters’ opinions to the NA and authorised agencies and, on his position, enhance direction to and coordination with relevant bodies to better deal with their worries.
He said in spite of initial outcomes, it is a need to ramp up anti-corruption efforts as this is an extremely complicated, long-term and difficult fight which relates to the interests and honour of each person and organisation.
The Party and the State are resolved to prevent corruption and consider this a task to purify the Party and State apparatus, he added.
Regarding the marine pollution in Ha Tinh and other central provinces, the leader said the pollution and other similar incidents taught an expensive lesson that Vietnam must not attract investment at any cost, but protect the environment.
In terms of sovereignty protection, particularly after The Hague tribunal ruled on a lawsuit against the unfounded territorial claims in the East Sea, he confirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of persistently and determinedly safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring peace for national development.-VNA
