Leaders of French newspapers are in Hanoi for a meeting to seek ways for the spread of French journalism in foreign countries.
The meeting, from July 24-26, is the second of its kind. It brings together French media representatives from more than seven countries around Asia and Eastern Europe, including Cambodia, Thailand and Romania.
Participants will discuss current challenges facing publications in countries where French is not an official language and promote new developments in French language journalism.
The event is a joint effort between the Asia-Pacific Office of the International French Organisation (IFO), the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper.
Speaking at a press conference on July 24, VNA Deputy General Director Ngo Ha Thai said the meeting was a good chance for newspaper leaders to discuss and exchange knowledge in French language journalism among the French language newspaper community.
The meeting will also invite participants to assess the IFO's current strategy to support French language newspapers in non-native countries.
The event is an important contribution to building a more multicultural and multilingual community, he said.
The first meeting was held in Bucharest, Rumania in December 2011.-VNA
