HCM City encourages Thailand’s SCG to invest in key projects

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal Party Committee Dinh La Thang has suggested SCG Building Materials of Thailand seize business opportunities in trade, infrastructure, smart transport, e-government, services and finance in Vietnam.

During a reception for SCG Country Executive Director Dhep Vongvanich, Thang assured the guest that Ho Chi Minh City always offers all possible support to investors in and outside the country, adding that it is working toward the goal of becoming a financial, economic and cultural hub in the region.

Vongvanich, for his part, informed the host that SCG is joining with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and other partners to invest in Long Son petrochemical complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau – a key project of national significance in refinery.

Construction on the 4.5 billion USD complex is slated to begin later this year on an area of nearly 450ha.

Operating in Vietnam since 1992, SGC has generated nearly 7,000 jobs for Vietnamese workers and its total investment has neared 700 million USD.

SGC is further increasing its investment in Vietnam, particularly in cement and processed oil refining.-VNA

Government urges vigilance as inflation pressures mount in H2

Public investment drives Hanoi’s growth momentum

Lao Cai steps up anti-smuggling crackdown, handles more than 1,220 cases

Among the cases were 367 involving the illegal trade and transport of prohibited or smuggled goods, 692 related to commercial and tax fraud, and 162 concerning counterfeit products, imitation goods and intellectual property infringements. Criminal proceedings were launched in 231 cases, with 406 suspects facing criminal proceedings, while 957 cases were settled through administrative penalties.

The resolution calls for a shift in development mindset, positioning FDI as a key driver of growth model transformation, with a focus on quality, value addition and continuous improvement of intrinsic capacity and self-reliance of the economy.
