The Saigon Water Supply Corporation (SAWACO) put the Thu Duc Water Plant, phase III, into operation on August 21 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The project, capable of providing 300,000 cubic metres per day, is the first water plant of the city to apply advanced German technology that supplies safer water to local residents.

The water plant, which has a total investment of over 1.2 trillion VND (approximately 53 million VND), will help bring the total water supply for Ho Chi Minh City to 2.1 million cubic metres per day, sufficiently satisfying the city’s demand, SAWACO Chairman Tran Van Khuyen said.

He noted that one more newly-built water plant, Tan Hiep 2, is scheduled to be operational next year, adding to the city’s six existing others.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Director of the municipal Department of Transport Nguyen Thanh Chung said the launch of the Thu Duc water plant phase III is part of Ho Chi Minh City’s water supply plan through 2025.

The plan estimates that the city needs around 3.6 million cubic metres per day by 2025, necessitating the construction of additional five water plants at a total cost of 12 trillion VND or 528 million USD.

It will also required an additional 2,800 kilometres of water supply pipe networking with a total investment of 4.8 trillion VND or 211.2 million USD.-VNA
