HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wants to enhance delegation exchanges and step up cooperative relations with China’s Hunan province, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong has said.

Hosting a reception for Secretary of the Party Committee of Hunan province Du Jiahao on December 1, Phong said that both sides have huge potential for cooperation in tourism, trade and investment, contributing to socio-economic development in each nation.

On the basis of the thriving Vietnam-China relations, Ho Chi Minh City has promoted the exchange of delegations and partnership in trade, investment and tourism with eight localities in China, he underlined.

Phong expressed his hope that the Hunan leader’s visit will serve as a catalyst for Ho Chi Minh City and Hunan to further their cooperative ties.

Du, for his part, said that his visit aims to concretise cooperation agreements reached between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping during Xi’s visit to Vietnam in 2017.

Hunan will join hands with other Chinese localities to intensify cooperation with Vietnamese partners, helping branch out the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Congratulating Ho Chi Minh City for its socio-economic achievements in the past time, Du said he expects the city will become an economic, financial, trade and logistic hub not only of Vietnam but also of the region.

Hunan hopes to enhance cooperation with the Vietnamese city in the fields of both sides’ strengths like tourism, infrastructure development, information and electronics.

Chinese investors have poured 157 million USD in 225 projects in Ho Chi Minh City, ranking 19th among 100 countries and territories having investment in the city. Last year, HCM City’s trade with China stood at 16 billion USD. China is one of the five biggest sources of visitors to Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
