HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City appreciatesforeign resources which have helped with the city’s development into aneconomic, financial, trade and science-technology centre in the region,Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong told visitingGovernor of the US State of Utah Gary Herbert during a reception on September1.

Phong expressed his hope that Utah and Ho Chi Minh City willincrease diplomatic activities and bilateral cooperation programmes for thecommon benefit of the two peoples.

He wished that Utah businesses would explore long-termbusiness opportunities in the city in priority fields such as tourism and hightechnology.

Herbert, for his part, said Ho Chi Minh City and Utah share similaritiesin development history, cultural values, young population as well as challengesarising from growing urban population and environmental protection.

The guest expressed his wish that Ho Chi Minh City would facilitatevisits to share experience in developing clean energies, environment andeducation to improve local well-being.

On the occasion of the Utah governor’s visit, memoranda ofunderstanding were signed on cooperation between the Saigon Hi-tech Park andthe Utah State Centre for Research and Science-Technology, and between the SaigonSilicon Park company and the Utah World Trade Centre.-VNA

New impetus for overseas Vietnamese communities

Vietnam, US step up cooperation in search for missing Vietnamese soldiers

A Vietnamese official proposed that the US continue increasing resources for dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa and Phu Cat airbases, expand projects supporting people with disabilities, enhance the sharing of historical data, provide DNA technology assistance and continue close coordination in the search for missing US service members and Vietnamese soldiers.
