Houston mayor pledges to foster ties with Vietnam

The Mayor of Houston – capital city of the US state of Texas – has pledged favourable conditions for further multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.

Annise Parker made the commitment at a working session with Vietnamese Consul General in Houston, Le Dung, on August 20.

Dung briefed his host on the socio-economic situation in Vietnam as well as bilateral relations after 15 years of normalisation of diplomatic ties, saying that the multifaceted cooperation has grown rapidly, especially in economy, trade and investment.

The diplomat said the Government of Vietnam highly values the role and position of Houston , which has boasted high economic growth rates, leading industrial and medical centres, labs and universities and is home to a large community of overseas Vietnamese.

That’s why Vietnam chose Houston as the place to open its consulate general, with the aim of expanding relations between Vietnam and Texas in general and Houston in particular for benefits of both sides, he said.

Parker applauded Vietnam ’s opening of its new consulate general in the city and expressed her delight at progress and achievements of the relationships between the two nations as well as between Vietnam and Houston .

The mayor noted with pleasure that an increasing number of Houston investors have been interested in the Vietnamese market, especially in the fields of trade, investment, education and development cooperation./.
