Indian Consul General Abhay Thakur has asked the central coastal province of Phu Yen to increase cooperation with India in economics, culture and human resources training.
The Consul General made the request while paying a working visit to Phu Yen province on Dec. 20, during which he pointed out that India has poured 0.5 billion USD into Vietnam and two-way trade turnover had now reached 3 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent.
Up to 2015, India will see Vietnam as a perfect market to beef up investment in the country in general and in Phu Yen in particular, he said.
Abhay Thakur suggested Phu Yen province participate in a trade conference and an international fair to take place in the Indian capital of New Delhi in 2011. He also asked the province to send representatives from businesses to attend a training course on science and technology being held in Vietnam
In terms of culture, the Indian Consul General proposed an Indian film festival in Phu Yen province.
Phan Dinh Cu, Chairman of the Phu Yen People’s Committee, pledged that the province will create favourable conditions for foreign businesses and investors, including those from India . He said the province will submit a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organise an Indian film festival programme in 2011.
Currently, KCP Industry Co. Ltd is the only Indian-invested project in Phu Yen. It is seen as the most effective foreign project in the province. On the same day, the Phu Yen People’s Committee held a conference to call for investment in 24 projects worth about 19 trillion VND which mostly focus on infrastructure, agriculture, food processing, garment manufacture, tourism and education.
At the event, the Phu Yen People’s Committee has revealed preferential policies regarding tax and land and water space leases in a 23,720 ha area of Nam Phu Yen Economic Zone./.
