Jakarta (VNA) – The first edition of the Bali International Kungfu Championship is underway in Indonesia’s island province of Bali from December 17-22.

A total of 735 athletes from 88 schools both within Indonesia and from foreign countries and territories like Ukraine, Macau (China), and Norway are competing in the tournament, which plays host to 424 categories based on the number of games and ages of the athletes.

Bambang Supriyanto, head of the organising board, said the championship aims to promote the martial art on the international arena, as well as the image of Bali as a noticeable tourist destination of Indonesia.

Indonesia’s wushu trainer Ahmad Rifai said the tournament is expected to seek out young talent in the sport as it attracts the participation of more than 500 children, including four five-year-old athletes.
