Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) on February 28 received a total of 24 F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets as part of the procurement programme from the US.

The aircraft were handed over at Iswahyudi Air Force Base in Malang, East Java of Indonesia, according to the TNI.

The ceremony was attended by TNI Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and US Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph Donovan.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the US Air Force. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Despite no longer being purchased by the US Air Force, improved versions are being built for exports. -VNA
