Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Government plans to support laid-off workers through the Job Loss Insurance (JKP) programme, which includes cash benefits of 60% of wages for five months, a training programme worth 2.4 million IDR (148 USD), and easy access to the Pre-Employment Programme, according to Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli.
The official said that the policy, which will take effect from January 1, 2025, is part of Indonesia’s strategy to improve people's welfare amid global economic challenges, and aims to ensure workers who lose their jobs can still have purchasing power and opportunities to improve their skills.
Besides, the Indonesian Government will also provide 50% subsidies for workplace accident insurance for labour-intensive industries.
This policy, which impacts around 3.76 million workers in 110,000 companies across Indonesia, is intended to ease the financial burden on companies, enabling them to retain more workers.
Yassierli assured that the Indonesian Government's policy of increasing the value-added tax (VAT) rate to 12% will not neglect protection for workers, especially in the labour-intensive sector and those affected by employment termination.
With this step, the Indonesian Government seeks to maintain a balance between state revenue collection and social protection so that the economic policies can have an impact on all levels of society./.
