Jakarta, December 10 (VNA) – Indonesia’s creative economy could contribute up to 20 percent to the global economy, according to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.

The country’s creative economy has been ranked third in the world in terms of its contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP). The United States is currently ranked first with its Hollywood film industry, followed by the Republic of Korea with its K-Pop industry.
According to Minister Uno, high quality human resources (HR) in the tourism and creative economy sectors are needed to respond to the challenges ahead. To push up this potential, it is crucial to digitise the creative economy, he said.

Although between 70-75 percent of the creative economy is still supported by the culinary, handicraft and fashion industries, in the future, it is necessary to industrialise the creative economy in other areas to create applications for the gaming, television, radio, and animation industries, as well as a number of sub-sectors that their digitisation has been accelerated by the pandemic.

The minister also said these prospects are an opportunity that can be taken advantage of by all stakeholders. However, innovation, adaptation and cooperation among organisations are essential to ensure the success of the country's creative economy.

He went on saying that growth in tourism and the country's creative economy will be better next year because tourist destinations are more prepared with health and travel protocols, namely “Clean, Health, Safety, Environmental Sustainability”.

In the coming time, the ministry will also create support for businesses in the tourism industry and the creative economy from the National Economic Recovery (PEN) Programme./.
