A franchise model for public reproductive health and family planning services branded as “Tinh chi em” (Sisterhood) was launched the Ea Phe commune medical station, Krong Pak district, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on March 12.

As part of the “Perfecting and expanding franchise model for public reproductive health and family planning services in public medical establishments” project funded by the US-based non-governmental organisation Atlantic Philanthropies, the model aims to improve service quality and meet the increasing demand.

It aims to improve the health of reproductive-aged women by providing high-quality healthcare services.

The “Tinh chi em” model has already been implemented in 90 commune-level medical stations in northern mountainous Yen Bai province, the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau and the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak from 2013-2016, focusing on surveying and assessing, building the capacity of service providers, raising public awareness of the issue, and institutionalising and expanding the model.

As many as 30 medical stations in Dak Lak have benefited from the project and a substantial number of medical workers have been provided with skill training for the model.

The pilot project was carried out in central Da Nang city and Khanh Hoa province from 2005-2009, with secondary expansions into the northern province of Thai Nguyen, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long from 2009-2012, which yielded remarkable successes.

From 2005-2012, around 3.5 million clients were served at medical stations applying the model nationwide, 87 percent of which said they were satisfied with services they received.

Nguyen Trung Thanh, Deputy Director of Dak Lak’s Department of Health, said the expansion of the model in the province will help strengthen the capacity of reproductive health and family planning services as well as the professional skills of local medical staff, giving local residents, especially those in remote areas, access to high-quality reproductive health services.-VNA
