The third international workshop on the East Sea opened in Hanoi onNov. 4 with the participation of more than 200 foreign and domesticdelegates.
With the theme “East Sea: Cooperationfor security and development in the region”, the workshop reviewedrecent developments relating to the East Sea and put forward measures tomaintain peace and stability and promote cooperation in the region.
Delegates from the US , India , Russia and ASEAN nationsemphasised the importance of the East Sea issue to an environmentof peace, and stability in the region and the world.
Some delegates said the East Sea is of global significance because amidthe globalisation process, international security is inseparable andthe interests of countries in the region and the world are intermixed.
They stressed that ensuring marine security andsafety and freedom of navigation in the East Sea is a vitalquestion for nations both in and outside the region./.
