Int’l conference discusses sustainability, digital transformation in Southeast Asia

The two-day academic forum, themed “Resilience, Sustainability & Digital Transformation in a Changing World: Perspectives from Southeast Asia”, aims to share interdisciplinary research insights, focusing on adaptive capacity, sustainable development, and digital transformation amid evolving global and regional landscapes.

HCM City (VNA) – The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) opened its 2025 International Conference on Economics, Law, and Government (ELG 2025) on August 1, drawing scholars, policymakers, and experts at home and abroad to tackle the intertwined challenges of resilience, sustainability, and digital transformation.

The two-day academic forum, themed “Resilience, Sustainability & Digital Transformation in a Changing World: Perspectives from Southeast Asia”, aims to share interdisciplinary research insights, focusing on adaptive capacity, sustainable development, and digital transformation amid evolving global and regional landscapes.

Discussions span economics, law, and public governance, including technological and policy solutions for post-crisis economic recovery; legal and governance frameworks responsive to environmental change and digitalisation; public finance, behavioral economics, institutional capacity; and the use of quantitative modeling and data analysis in sustainable policymaking.

In the plenary session, Prof. Pamela Jagger from the US’s University of Michigan highlighted robust data systems and local governance as critical for climate resilience in developing countries.

Meanwhile, Prof. Jeannie Marie Paterson from the University of Melbourne underscored the law’s critical role in fostering transparency and accountability, vital for building social trust, enabling resilience and sustainable development amid rapid digitalisation.

Parallel sessions explored urgent global issues and provided a platform to establish long-term international collaborations. The event also aimed to advance interdisciplinary, multinational studies and education while raising public awareness about the vital role of digital transformation in achieving sustainability and resilience in an increasingly volatile world.

UEH President Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh said the event builds on last year’s focus on “dual transformation”, a concept addressing the simultaneous challenges of climate change and digital innovation./.
