An international workshop on state power and experience from other countries’ constitutions was held in Hanoi on Feb. 28 by the Vietnam National Assembly Office and the German Konrad Adenauer Institute.

The workshop aims to create a forum for experts from Germany , the Republic of Korea , Singapore , Cambodia , the Philippines and Vietnamese NA deputies and experts to discuss international experience in organising state power.

NA Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan stressed the success of Vietnam ’s 1992 Constitution in all aspects, saying that it has helped the country gain great achievements with rapid economic growth during its renewal process.

The Constitution was issued at the beginning of the process and the country has seen changes amidst developments in the world, she said, adding that study, amendment and supplements to the 1992 Constitution help the country adapt to changing circumstances and are an important task of the Party and State of Vietnam.

Amending the Constitution not only betters positions, the functions of each institution in the State apparatus, but also improves mechanisms on assigning, coordinating and controlling the implementation of State power among agencies, she said.

According to Ngan, valuable and diverse experience from models on organising state power in the world will be a source of useful information for reference for Vietnam in building and improving the State apparatus in line with the country’s condition and circumstances.

At the workshop, international law experts shared experience in control and decentralisation of power in Europe, including Germany and Asian countries; the role of the constitutional court in controlling power from the Republic of Korea and the implementation of a constitution in Cambodia during the past 18 years.-VNA
