Iran folk music to debut in Hanoi

The Iranian folk music group Homayoun will present several famous traditional Persian music pieces at a performance in Hanoi this week.
The Iranian folk music group Homayoun will present several famoustraditional Persian music pieces at a performance in Hanoi thisweek.

The five member group play a variety ofinstruments including the tar (Persian long-neck, waisted stringinstrument), the kamancheh (Persian bowed string instrument), the tanbur(pear-shaped, long-necked string instrument), the tonbak (Persiangoblet drum), the daf (Persian frame drum), and the santur (Iraniandulcimer).

Founded in 1994, the group has performed inGermany , the Netherlands and France. The group will hold theirdebut concert in Hanoi at 8 pm on September 25 at the Hanoi OperaHouse.

They will also perform at the Hanoi Universityof Social Sciences and Humanities, 336 Nguyen Trai Road , at 4.30 pmon September 26; and the Vietnam National Academy of Music, 77 Hao NamStreet, at 8 pm on September 27.

While the debut concert is by invitation only, the two following shows are open free to the public.-VNA
