Jakarta (VNA) - The Women’s International Club Jakarta (WIC) hosted a bazaar in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 10 and 11 to raise money for humanitarian activities.

Booths from 50 embassies in Indonesia, 220 local enterprises and three humanitarian organisations, offered textiles, handicraft products and food.

Speaking at the bazaar, Mufidah Yusuf Kalla, the wife of the Indonesian Vice President, spoke highly of activities held by WIC for humanitarian purposes, saying that it promotes the images and cultures of participating countries, and fosters friendship among nations.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia’s booth introduced traditional goods such as embroidered and lacquer products, coffee and green-bean cakes.

The organising board said all the proceeds will be given to the humanitarian fund managed by WIC.

With donations collected from the last year’s bazaar, WIC supported a number of educational and social projects, and presented 48 scholarships to Indonesian university students.

Established in 1950 by women of four different nationalities – India, Indonesia, the UK and the US – the club has become a gathering place for women from foreign embassies in Indonesia.

It regularly arranges humanitarian activities to provide assistance for people with disabilities, the elderly, street children, orphans and disadvantaged students in Indonesia.-VNA
