Japan’s Mitsui company will buy 5,000 tonnes of quality rice from Myanmar, according to mainstream media in Myanmar.

They said Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation will deliver the rice at a price of 490 USD a tonne.

Myanmar set the target to export 1.5 million tonnes of rice in the fiscal year of 2012-2013. The country has so far exceeded the target by about 600,000 tonnes, according to an official report.

Local media reported that businesses from Japan, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam are planning investment in Myanmar's agricultural sector.
Mitsui Company of Japan for example, has signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation on cooperation in agricultural development.

By December 2012, foreign investment in the agricultural sector of Myanmar reached 182.75 million USD in nine projects, accounting for only 0.5 percent of the total amount since the country opened to such investment in late 1988.-VNA
