The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang reported no illegal, unreported or unregulated (IUU) fishing cases in the last quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 thanks to drastic crackdowns.

Kien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province ofKien Giang reported no illegal, unreported or unregulated (IUU) fishing cases in thelast quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 thanks to drastic crackdowns.

According to Nguyen Quoc Truong, deputy head of theprovincial fisheries sub-department, a series of anti-IUU measures have beenimplemented.

They include communication campaigns to raise awareness;intensified handling of suspicious fishing vessels; and coordinated investigationsto tackle illegal fishing in foreign waters and illegal entries into Vietnam bysea, among others.  

The province plans to further tighten its cooperation withcentral and local agencies to investigate, verify and strictly handle fishingvessels that violate foreign waters. Increasing communication is a vital partof the country’s efforts to remove of the “yellow card” imposed by the EuropeanCommission on Vietnamese seafood products.

At a teleconference with 28 coastal provinces and citiesin July 2021, the national steering committee for anti-IUU fishing set thetarget of putting an end to violations of anti-IUU fishing rules in 2022./.

Ministry of Home Affairs to apply KPIs in public employee evaluation

The Ministry of Home Affairs will accelerate reforms under the theme “breakthrough momentum,” focusing on institutional improvement and resource mobilization. Public order crime drops 22.55% in first half

In the field of economic crime, 2,096 cases involving 4,194 suspects were prosecuted in the first half. For corruption and position-related crimes, 370 cases and 1,042 suspects were brought to trial. Meanwhile, police uncovered 11,687 drug-related cases involving 22,863 individuals.

Youth volunteers support operation of local administration model, online public services

The programme prioritises 286 remote border communes, wards and special areas, where coordination between local youth units is seen as crucial. Volunteers are deployed across three main functions: supporting officials with administrative procedures, helping people and businesses submit online applications and payments, and offering digital training through creative models such as mobile tech clinics and grassroots tech groups.
