The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on May 6 jointly launched consultation activities regarding reducing emissions in the province.

This is a main content of the UN Collaborative Programme for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD), which is being carried out in Lam Ha and Di Linh districts.

The consultation activities focus on the values of forest resources and the role of forests in protecting the ecological environment and the atmosphere, methods to preserve and develop forests.

The consultation will assess the real status of forest resources and the causes of deforestation and forest degradation in Lam Ha and Di Linh districts and put forth solutions.

It will also build methods to enable people to calculate levels of carbon emission reductions through forest protection.

The consultation activities, which will last until June 20, aim to raise awareness of the authorities and people in targeted areas and improve the technical capacity of authorised agencies and the whole community.

The UN-REDD programme, funded by Norway , Spain and Denmark , aims to help developing countries. Vietnam is one of the nine pilot nations to implement the programme with a total investment of 4.5 million USD./.
