A Russian visitor is currently being quarantined at the Lam Dong General Hospital in Da Lat city due to possible infection with the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV), said the Lam Dong province’s Department of Health Director Pham Thi Bach Yen.

The 24-year-old female patient came to Da Lat three days ago. She passed in transit through the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand – two MERS-CoV-affected countries – before arriving in Vietnam about ten days ago.

On June 22, she had a high fever and sore throat and came to a local hospital the day after for a medical check.

The patient and the man who accompanied her during the visit were then transferred to a separate section at Lam Dong General Hospital.

Her samples were sent to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City for testing.

Since the beginning of this month, the provincial health sector has actively carried out preventive measures at the Lien Khuong International Airport to ensure effective control of the disease with passengers, especially those arriving from Middle Eastern countries.-VNA
