Lawmakers work on bill on planning, relief of officials

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) discussed the draft law on planning and voted on the relief of the Minister of Transport and the Government Inspector General during its plenary meeting on October 25, part of its ongoing fourth session.

After Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Economic Affairs Vu Hong Thanh delivered an explanation report on amendments to the draft law on planning, deputies looked into some contentious issues of this bill, including the system of national planning, the principles and competence of making and approving planning, prohibited actions, and inspection and handling of violations.

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung also provided more information to clarify some matters mentioned by legislators.

The same day, the parliament cast secret ballots on the relief of Truong Quang Nghia of the post of Minister of Transport and Phan Van Sau of the post of Government Inspector General. Most of the lawmakers approved the dismissal.

After that, Minister of Public Security To Lam submitted a report on the draft law on state secrets protection. A verification report on this bill was later delivered by Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Defence and Security Vo Trong Viet.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc submitted a proposal on the approval of appointing new Minister of Transport and Inspector General. This proposal was later scrutinised by deputies in their groups.

On October 26 morning, the parliament is set to decide the appointment of new Minister of Transport and Inspector General and discuss the draft law revising and supplementing some articles of the Law on Credit Institutions.

In the afternoon, it will vote on a resolution on the appointment and discuss the draft law on revising and supplementing some articles of the law on Vietnam’s overseas representative agencies.-VNA
