Vientiane (VNA) – The Vietnam-Laos relations will develop even more strongly in the time ahead following the freshly concluded official visit to Laos by Vietnamese Party and State leader, according to a senior official of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).
Sounthone Xayachak, head of the LPRP Central Committee’s External Relations Commission, highlighted the significance of the visit from February 24 to 25 by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong, in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency.
She noted that during the trip that received high regard from both sides, leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral cooperation in the coming time.
They reaffirmed the significance of the great friendship, comprehensive cooperation and special relations between the two Parties, States and peoples, which were founded by Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong and have been safeguarded and nurtured by generations of the countries’ leaders and peoples.
In General Secretary and President Trong’s talks with his Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachith and meetings with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou, both sides reiterated that they will together continue maintaining and developing the time-tested, rare and faithful relationship so as to bring practical benefits to the two peoples.

During the trip, the countries signed nine cooperation documents serving as the basis for realising their leaders’ agreements, Xayachak noted.
The two nations have regular meetings every year, but this time’s tour held special importance as Trong visited Laos in his positions of both Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam.
The official said what the two sides need to do is promoting more substantive cooperation. The cooperation in politics is considered the one setting up orientations for relations in other spheres. Meanwhile, bilateral links in defence, security and diplomacy have continuously been strengthened. They are also working hard to bring their connections in economy, trade, investment and many other fields on par with political ties.
She added that to the Lao side, its relationship with Vietnam is forever “a great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation” that the entire Party, State and people of Laos are well aware of.
The official expressed her hope that this relationship will be further intensified so that it will be handed down to future generations and become immortal in the revolutionary causes of both nations.-VNA
