Vietnam’s Party, State and National Assembly leaders on December 26 welcomed Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on his official visit to Vietnam, the first overseas one after he was re-elected to the post.

At his reception, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong described the Cambodian PM’s visit as an important event, profoundly manifesting the closer bilateral ties.

General Secretary Trong congratulated Hun Sen on his re-election as the Cabinet’s leader, saying that he is confident in Cambodia’s further development across the board under the direction and management of the Government.

Speaking highly of the recent talks between the two PMs, he urged them to direct ministries and agencies to realise agreements signed previously.

He also conveyed his greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni, Queen Mother Monineath Sihanouk, Senate President Chea Sim, National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin and other Cambodian leaders.

Hun Sen expressed his wish to keep developing bilateral friendship and sharing experience in political reform.

Welcoming the Cambodian leader, President Sang said there should be more high-level visits between two sides to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.

He also asked for Cambodia’s support to the Vietnamese community to lead a stable life in the country.
The guest, for his part, made it clear that Cambodia is interested in doing business with Vietnam towards the goal of 5 billion USD in two-way trade by 2015 and 1 million Vietnamese tourists to visit Cambodia in 2014.

The PM proposed stronger people-to-people diplomatic activities, especially the ones to raise young generations’ awareness of bilateral friendship.

He said he looks forward to welcoming President Sang to his country.

In his reception for Hun Sen, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung noted his hope that both nations will realise ideas reached by the two PMs at their freshly-ended talks so as to widen the Vietnam-Cambodia partnerships.

The Vietnamese legislature always pays attention to close connections with the Cambodian Parliament and Senate for the sake of their people, Chairman Hung added.

The Cambodian leader sought both legislatures’ support to joint work between the two Cabinets, expressing his belief that with both law-making bodies behind, Vietnam and Cambodia will become closer in the future.-VNA
