Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia targets to attract 33.1 million foreign visitors in 2018, said the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture on December 27.

The Star newspaper quoted Rashidi Hasbullah, an official of the Ministry, as saying that Malaysia welcomed about 17.34 million visitors in January-August 2017. The country earned 31.8 billion MYR (7.8 billion USD) in tourism revenue in the first half of the year, a rise of 1.8 percent year-on-year.

In 2017, Malaysia set the goal to receive 31.8 million tourists, raking in 118 billion MYR (28.99 billion USD).

Tourism, recognised as one of the 12 key economic areas of Malaysia, is the third biggest contributor to the country’s gross national income.-VNA
