Malaysian exports of natural rubber (NR) in May plummeted 17.4 percent from the previous month to 40,500 tonnes, the country’s statistics department said on July 13.
Compared annually, the exports decreased 32 percent.
The commodity was mainly exported to China, accounting for 36.2 percent of the total export volume, and Germany with 16.3 percent.
Standard Malaysia rubber constituted over 92 percent of the country’s total exported rubber.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s NR output in May dropped 11.3 percent annually to over 38,900 tonnes but increased 8.6 compared to the previous month.
At end of May, NR stocks stood at 132,900 tonnes, 1.8 percent higher than the same period last year.
Together with Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, Malaysia is one of the world’s biggest NR producers.-VNA
