Speaking at joint press conference with the visiting US PresidentBarack Obama after their meeting on April 27, Malaysian Prime MinisterNajib Razak has stressed that the event marks a new phase in thebilateral relations between the two countries, with stronger cooperationin the economy, security, education, science and technology.
TheMalaysian PM said that both sides also agreed to resume senior officialdialogue between them, adding that agreements reached during Obama’svisit will be a sound foundation for future cooperation between the twosides.
The two leaders also discussed the negotiation process ofTrans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement and analyzed the agreement’simpacts on economic cooperation between their countries.
Two-way trade between Malaysia and the US reached an average of 35billion USD per year in the 2010-2013 period. Last year, the US was thelargest foreign investor in Malaysia, pouring 1.9 billion USD into theSoutheast Asian country.
The host and guest alsoexchanged their views on the East Sea issue, underscoring the importanceof observance of international law including the UN Convention on theLaw of the Sea (UNCLOS).-VNA
